Philosophy not Psychology! Even CSI recognizes it!

October 22, 2010 Leave a comment

I was told that on CSI last night, someone referred to Carl Jung (the psychologist) as that “great philosopher.” That is PRECISELY what Carl Jung is – a philosopher! I’m glad the show was honest enough to admit it.

Most people view psychology as a “science” but is it really? Where is the objective data that is done in the medical field? Most of psychology’s data is subjective and based on human self-report not on objective data. The DSM-IV diagnoses are often given based upon self-report or observation, not on bloodwork and the like.

So, it is ACCURATE to call psychology a philosophy because that is what it is 95% of the time! And it is accurate to call Carl Jung a philosopher because that is what he really is!

One more note: what does God say in His Word about philosophies of mankind? Colossians 2:8 tells us: See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

So beware of philosophy and psychology WHEN they oppose GOD and His divinely inspired Word of truth!

Why I am NOT an Integrationist

August 25, 2010 1 comment

The word “integration” means “to form, coordinate, or blend into a functioning or unified whole” (Websters, 1983).

Applied to biblical counseling, an “integrationist” is someone who is trying to unify the field of counseling by combining the Bible with secular psychological theories. For years, integrationists have been trying to produce a unified model of counseling yet the search for the perfect integrated model continues. Why?

Because oil and water do not mix. Neither do the Bible and psychological theories of sinful mankind that promote lies contrary to the Scriptures.

BOTH the Bible and psychological theories are tools used to “study the soul.” Psychology means “the study of the soul” and Christians everywhere would say, “what studies the soul better than the Bible? Nothing!” Yet for some reasons, Christian integrationists think that the Bible is NOT sufficient for SOUL CARE and that we need the psychological theories of Freud, Skinner, Maslow, Jung, and Adler to ADD to the Bible. These unbelieving men somehow help God out with their psychobabble theories.

What’s the Bible say in Col. 2:8? “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” Think about that. We must be CAREFUL to listen to Christ and not listen to the ideas of the world though they might sound really good.

Do you hear Him? He wrote you a book. He calls it His Word. Hear what He has to say and read it by the power of the Holy Spirit. You can hear from Him today!

DSM-V in World Magazine

Read this article from WORLD magazine: http://www.worldmag.com/articles/16573

This article articulates well the problem of “overdiagnosing” that is ALREADY occurring in our culture today. It’s already happening and this new DSM version will only make it worse than it is now!

It is an epidemic in our country because EVERYONE struggles with some sin issue and yet these labels excuse “sin” and call it “sickness.” Re-labeling sin does not change the truth that many “psychological issues” stem from sin. That’s the truth. No medication can permanently solve a sin problem. Only Christ does that!

Diagnosing sin and calling it sin will lead someone to the Cross because that’s the ONLY place that sins are forgiven!

-Mark (glad to see people are seeing the dangers in psychological labels that point people away from sin and our Savior of those sins!)

Wow! Read this article on the DSM changes!

The DSM, or the “bible” of psychology, is changing. There is a lot of discussion of what disorders to put in that manual now for its release in the next few years.

Please take five minutes and read this article on the internet:

If you read this blog often, you will better understand part of what our message at TIL is!

This article gives us insight into the BIG money behind all of this and the fact that they call it the “bible” is important to note, too!

I hate psychology, not psychologists…there is a difference!

Please understand that my strong blogs are against the THEORIES and IDEAS of psychology NOT the people who believe them. I love psychologists and have some great brothers/sisters who are doing their best to help people as psychiatrists and psychologists. In fact, Dr. James Dobson has been a man I have admired for many years though I disagree with some of his beliefs. He is a precious man!

We love people, even those we disagree with.

Also, we love people who are lost like those who trust in false religions like Buddhism. We love athiests and agnostics. We love people not the ideas they represent.

Pray for those who believe the lies of FALSE RELIGIONS. I pray for the people but I hate and oppose their ideas with the Word of God. Do you think Jesus would shy away from speaking the truth in love about false religions and false ideas in psychology and in the world like “man is born good” or “alcoholism is a disease” and the like?

Strong blogs lately because we have a strong enemy in Satan the father of all lies.

Let’s stand for truth of God’s Word. Let’s stand for Christ. Let’s oppose the lies of Satan that were propaged by Freud, Skinner, Wundt, Adler, Jung, and Maslow…but let’s pray for and love the sinner!

-Mark (recognizing that most people in the church do not see psychology as an enemy yet, but they will when the Holy Spirit opens their eyes)

Why I hate psychological lies (part 4)

January 30, 2010 Leave a comment

Hate is a strong word. The only time it’s ok to hate is when we hate what God hates. Even then, we must not RESPOND in hate but in love. That’s the hard part. (Rom. 12:17-21)

People often say, “God hates divorce” and I agree. We should hate it, too. Divorce is terrible and our God of love hates it because it devastates families.

God hates evil. We should hate it, too, and not allow it in our own lives.

In fact, Proverbs 6:16 states: “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, 19 a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

God hates “haughty eyes” or the pride in our prideful looks, tongues that tell lies, hands that shed innocent blood (abortion?), a heart that plans to do evil deeds, feet that run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and a person who brings division among brothers in Christ. We must hate these things, too.

But that doesn’t mean we overcome them with evil. Instead, we overcome all of them with good. We’ve got to be loving toward others and overcome their evil with good. It’s the same for psychology. We must overcome it with good.

By “good,” I mean that we must seek to do our part in the body of Christ to reach lost souls, to reconcile marriages, to disciple others, and to lead people to Christ. That’s what we must be about and how we overcome our hate of psychology with the love of God.

I want you to know that I am PRO-Christ more than I am ANTI-psychology. I just hate lies that lead people away from knowing our transformational God (John 17:3; Rom. 12:1-2).

Furthermore, we know that the fathers of psychology Freud, Wundt, Maslow, Adler, Jung, and Skinner were NOT about the kingdom of God and were not going to point people to pray, read their Bibles, ask the Holy Spirit to open their eyes and empower them to obey God, go to church, submit to spiritual leadership, evangelize lost souls, and fellowship with other believers. The theories of these men OPPOSED the very Word of God!

So I ask you, does God hate psychology when it opposes His Holy Word and promotes self-centeredness and evil rather than obedience to Him?

I know this is strong but I want to encourage you to think through these issues. I recommend you read Ed Bulkley’s book, Why Christians Can’t Trust Psychology, or David Tyler’s book, God’s Funeral, to learn more about the deceptions of psychology and its theories so that you can identify the myths of psychology that oppose God’s Word.

-Mark (praying that you’ll read these posts with understanding and the perspective of God while giving me grace – I am NOT preaching myself for I am a redeemed sinner but I am preaching Christ in all of this!)

David vs. Goliath (part 2)

January 23, 2010 Leave a comment

I mean, really, what are we afraid of? What does psychology have to offer people? Eternal life? No!!! Not even much is offered in this life!

You may think that psychology has nothing to do with Christianity but you would be wrong. It has everything to do with it. Psychology focuses upon change. Psychology uses terms that describe behavior and thoughts. Psychology means “study of the soul.” I would say psychology is COMPETING with pastors and committed Christians. I would say it competes with the Gospel!

Am I angry at psychology? Yes! David called out Goliath! Here’s the true, historical account of what he said to Goliath to defend the honor of the Lord in I Samuel 17:45-47: “Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, 47 and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand.” The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (1 Sa 17:45-47). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

Guess what happened? Exactly what David said. Goliath was slain.

Likewise, psychology is a defeated foe just like Satan – except that some in the church keep it resuscitated by embracing its ideals that do not work.

Let’s kill the giant of psychobabble together. It won’t happen with us sitting on the sidelines. We’ve got to become more vocal and active like David was & ready for the fight. But guess what? God has already won the battle for us. Romans 8:31: “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Come join the brave soldiers of Christ in Truth in Love Ministries and let’s slay Goliath together!

-Mark (we serve a powerful God Who uses the foolish things of this world to confound the enemy!)
