Why I hate psychological lies (part 2)

January 28, 2010 Leave a comment

The world says that we have good in us apart from Christ. Secular psychology emphasizes this same wrong idea.

However, the Bible and biblical counseling teaches us that there is something that lives within us that draws us closer to what will kill us.

Our biggest enemy is ourselves, not Satan’s temptations or the lies of this world.

Only God’s goodness & His power that lives within us is what can overcome these 3 enemies: ourselves, Satan, and the world.

That’s why biblical counseling is a work of the Holy Spirit. God works through the counselors to transform the heart of a counselee by His Spirit. Period. It is NOT us. It’s Him and only Him.

God had bigger plans for Colt tonight… Watch the video

Please take a minute and 26 seconds to watch the post game interview below of Texas Quarterback Colt McCoy.  Here is a young man who understands what is truly important.  “God is in control of my life, I never question Him.  If all else fails, I know I am still standing on the ROCK.”   What a perfect example of walking out 1 Peter 3:15  But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

To God be all the Glory (even from those who lose)

But I will honor those who honor me, and I will despise those who think lightly of me.  (1 Samuel 2:30)

“Mr. Biblical”

September 9, 2009 Leave a comment

It’s not “Bibleman” – it’s “Mr. Biblical” – a new superhero who defeats bad guys by hitting them over the head with a concordance. Just kidding, of course!

Actually, sometimes, I think “Mr. Biblical” might be a BAD guy (like the Joker) who misuses the Bible to hurt people with it by telling them of their sins and failures AND OMITTING the grace and forgiveness of Christ. The great thing about sin is that we have a Savior and the answer to overcome the power of sin through Jesus Christ!

This idea of “Mr. Biblical” came from my children who lovingly joke with me about being “Mr. Biblical,” but they do mean it as a super-hero (not a bad guy!). I guess it’s my alter-ego when I counsel. At night when I get home, I change back into mild-mannered Mark but during the day for Truth in Love, I am “Mr. Biblical.”

Now, the trick is not just to KNOW the Bible but to DO the Bible -meaning living out biblical principles for the glory of God! Still working on the doing part.

James 1 tells us not to be only a HEARER of the Bible but a DOER of His Word. That’s really “Mr. Biblical” and I fall way short of that goal. My desire now is to become more like Christ, the only real super-hero and to implement God’s Word into my life by becoming more obedient to Him.

-Mark (being a doer not to earn salvation but to do so for the glory of God out of my thankful heart toward Him)

You’ve got to read this – a FIRST for TIL and a RARE occurrence!

You are NOT going to believe this!

One of our counselees led a young person to the Lord in our waiting room!

NOT a counselor but a counselee with whom we’ve been working for many months led a young person to the LORD.

How about that for God showing that He is working through this ministry for His own glory!

I don’t know of this EVER happening before at any ministry. Wow! Praise God for this counselee’s faithfulness to God. This just goes to show that counselees do NOT need a LABEL but need to be reminded that they are useful to the King of Kings! The label a counselee needs is not a psychological or secular label but the label of “Christian” or “evangelist”.

2 saved in 1 day!

By God’s grace, He saved 2 people in our ministry in just one day of biblical counseling! This is a first for TIL!

Praise the Lord!

So excited at our growth!

Psalm 34:2 – “My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.” – ESV

1 Corinthians 1:31 – “Therefore, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” – ESV

Praise the Lord for steadily, slowly growing this ministry!

We have watched Him grow us from 3 biblical counselors (volunteers!) and only 2 sessions PER WEEK to now…(drum roll please!)

52 people have ministered the truth of God’s Word through the love of the Holy Spirit!

All are volunteers (except 2, Jason and I – and our salaries are closer to volunteer status than “full-time” status! just joking, sorta!) and all are committed to the cause of lifting up Jesus! I absolutely love those involved in this ministry and I’m honored to be a small part of the team (I’m only 1 of those 52)!

We went from 3 people a year ago to 52 people now! That’s unbelievable growth the Lord is doing! (17 times more people are involved in the hard ministry of biblically counseling others)

What is gratifying to me is to watch people who volunteer for us grow. Many of them sit in with me and observe me. They speak out as I give them opportunities to share what the Lord lays on their hearts with counselees! The beauty of our model is that our volunteers grow spiritually as well as those hurting souls we are privileged to serve. I love being able to train, encourage, and mold the giving people involved in our ministry. These volunteers are GIVERS not takers!

Speaking of which, one more praise. I was looking at our calendar yesterday. When we started counseling, it was quite empty with only 2 counseling sessions in 1 week and a Board meeting. I compared it to this week’s calendar (April 21-24 since we only counsel 4 days per week). We had 55 scheduled sessions this week!    55!!!  That’s how many lives, families, and children we’ve helped this week!! Praise the Lord!

That’s 27 times more sessions than one year ago! That’s 53 more families we can impact for God’s glory by encouraging them to gaze only at Christ.

What more is there to say? Praise the Lord.

One final praise (I promise this is it). Someone came to know Christ as Lord and Savior this week (2 days ago). That’s what it’s all about. His soul will be with God forever – Satan lost another soul he thought he had!

I could go on that we have had at least one marriage in the process of reconciliation each week for the past 7 weeks, but I won’t mention that praise in detail.

To God be ALL the glory for the great things He’s done through this ministry!

Little is MUCH when God is in it.

Numbers for 2008 (part 2)

January 30, 2009 Leave a comment

“Wow, praise God” is all we can say about our 2008 numbers (see other post). I waited to post these numbers until AFTER our board of directors met.

Not only did we counsel last year, but we taught a total of  73  hours and 790  participants.

By God’s grace, our ministry is having an impact in the lives of many. Our most important numbers are as follows:

5    Conversions

and   15   Re-commitments to Christ.

Those conversions are also leading others to Christ, too! Talk about replication!

This is what we are most pleased with and thankful to Christ because He alone has the power to save souls!

We praise God for His fruit produced by Him through His ministry using us in  different locations!

-Mark (praising God to be used by Him for His own glory)
