A Daily Devotional for anyone, especially those struggling with addictions…

December 23, 2010 Leave a comment

Cross Talking is a daily devotional that is simple, clear, and a teaching tool to help people understand the biblical approach to addiction!

Since most programs are 90 days, this devo has 45 daily readings that should be read through 2x to better understand the biblical concepts presented. The book will address any addiction and really any idolatrous pleasure.

We use it at The Lovelady Center ( and we are seeing a greater understanding of the Gospel as a result. The whole point is to help people to KNOW God so that they can trust Him more and live by faith (not by sight).

-Mark (grateful that the message in the Gospel is simple: we are sinners saved by grace through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ)

“We don’t allow cross talking at our meetings.”

Do your addiction support group meetings allow Cross talking?

Well, I break that self-help support group meeting rule of “no cross talking” and many other ideas of mankind in my latest book called: Cross Talking. It’s a daily devotional designed to help you to avoid conforming to the thinking of this world so that you can be TRANSFORMED by the power of Christ alone.

Check out the latest release at Focus Publishing: – and let this book encourage you to do a lot of Cross talking! In fact, there is nothing more worthy to talk about!

-Mark (thankful that I can talk about the Cross where my sins were placed on Jesus and His righteousness was placed upon me – oh, what a blessed transaction that was…I can talk about nothing else but that wondrous Cross)

Well, I learned my lesson. I’ve been talking about my new devotional for “addicts” forever now (it seems). I know some of you are weary of me talking and posting about it. Frankly, I’m sorry I announced it so early. It takes awhile to publish a book though I wrote it last year. I am just excited about this little devotional because I believe it will help many!

Well, now, it’s finally here in Birmingham!

Cross Talking: A Daily Gospel for Transforming Addicts is available through Truth in Love Ministries at Bethel Baptist, Philadelphia Baptist, Christ Health Center, and soon at Family Christian Bookstore at Hwy 280.

As you know, I’m very excited about this book because it is simple and clearly presents the Gospel frequently throughout the book. I think ANYONE will benefit from reading it.

It’s IN now so come by any of our locations to get one. We are asking for a donation of any amount for them as they retail for $10.00. You can order it from Focus Publishing at or 1-800-91-FOCUS.

-Mark (this is like giving birth to a baby…well, not really, but it’s as close as I’ll ever get to delivering a baby myself)

2 New Books to be out – one soon & one later this year!

I am “super excited” about the next 2 books I’ve written being published by Focus Publishing in Minnesota (

1) The first one is a Daily Devotional called “Cross Talking” and will be great for ANYONE but especially for “addicts.” We hope to have some copies on hand June 1st at the latest!

2) The second one will be even better, I believe, and will be called “Addiction-proof Parenting.” This one will help parents from young to old tremendously and will be a great tool for anyone wanting to know the mind of an “addict.” How must parents teach their children to think and act? The Bible tells us so and this book will help you to explore that! (note: this one will be out in early fall, I think)

I’m just fired up about them and give ALL of the credit to God for inspiring me to write. I only write to help people and to glorify Him. There’s no other reason to write in my opinion. You do not make much money off of books unless you sell millions of them (I’ve sold about 13,000 in 3 years of all 10 of my books and booklets), but that should never be the motivation to write! It’s always for His glory alone and secondarily to help others (Matt. 22:37-40).

Maybe you have a book inside of you that needs to be written. I encourage you to do so. If God can do it through me, He can do it through you!

-Mark (pumped up and feeling physically better every day – thank you for your prayers)

Family Christian Bookstores (locally) carrying Mark’s books!

We need your help! Family Christian Bookstores in 3 locations (Trussville, HWY 280, and Gardendale) are carrying all of my books now! We need you to tell others and to go by and buy some of these books! 😉

While that would be nice, I trust the Lord that He will sell the books in His timing! Of course, if you feel led to buy one of them…

I am grateful that my books are available on Christian Book Distributors (,, and Focus Publishing ( I am asking the Lord to get HIS message out that He is still in the business of transforming our hearts, especially in the realm of all “addictions.” I am in awe of His power to transform me and others who have struggled with all types of addictions! I pray you find hope in Christ in my books and that they point you to Him!

-Mark (excited to be a servant in His kingdom!)

P.S. I have a new book coming out in a few weeks called “Cross Talking: A Daily Gospel Devotional for Transforming Addicts.” I’m very excited about this one!

Marshall and Mary Asher have authored a wonderful resource for biblical counselors. It is called The Christian’s Guide to Psychological Terms and it is available through our ministry.

Focus Publishing puts this resource in print ( as well as many other practical resources that help biblical counselors to do the work of ministry.

We’ll have some available at our next training class in one week. Hope to see you there!

-Mark (grateful to the Ashers for writing this great resource)

There is Strength in Numbers!

January 8, 2009 1 comment

In just a few weeks, my new book will be out called Strength in Numbers: The Team Approach to Biblical Counseling. I am excited about this book because it reinforces the strength of ministering in teams of two. The book gives practical advice about how to do this type of ministry and share the strengths/weaknesses of team ministry.

God said that it was NOT good that man should be alone when He created Adam so He brought Adam a partner: Eve.

Applied to ministry, it is great to have a partner in ministry and I’m so thankful for my wife, Mary, who definitely partners with me in life (and all of it’s ministry opportunities) AND for Jason, who partners with me in formal ministry. What a blessed man I am!

I can’t wait for you to read it!

-Mark (finding strength in Christ)
