Happy Birthday, Shirley!

Quick thank you and happy birthday to the Lord’s faithful servant, Shirley, who is our Vice President and a wonderful teacher, biblical counselor, and leader!

Wish her a happy birthday today and remind her how much the Lord loves her!

We thank the Lord for you, Shirley, and appreciate your prayers, thoughtfulness, and “stick-to-it-ness” to fulfill the calling the Lord has given you!

-Mark (praising the Lord for Shirley and her parents who raised her right!)

Happy Birthday, Ronny!

A man who exemplifies “Jesus Only” to me is Ronny, our office manager supreme!

Wish him a happy birthday today!

I hesitate to tell you his age, but this is a milestone birthday for him! I hit 40 a few months ago and he just hit…70!

-Mark (so thankful to Jesus Christ our Lord for my dad, Ronny, our TIL office manager and prayer warrior!)

First day of the rest of my life…

I turn the big 4-0 today.

How sad in one sense: life is going by so quickly. It seems like yesterday I was 39 (oh, I was!). It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was 7 years old, too. Remember those days? We had it made back then and didn’t even know it! My 7 year old now really has it made!

So, you can pray for me because this is the hardest birthday I’ve had so far. Hard to believe I’ve lived for 4 decades.

Nevertheless, I am rejoicing because growing old is a desire of my heart so that I might continue to do God’s will of glorifying Him and reaching hurting souls. Unless the Lord wants to bring me home to Him first, I’ll aim for growing older day by day by His grace.

Not only am I growing physically older, I am growing spiritually more mature daily in my walk with the Lord! I am becoming more like Jesus but have a very long way to go! If God wants me to become like Him in this life, I’ll live to more than a thousand years old because I am nowhere near being like Christ though I am nowhere where I used to be either. It’s all by God’s grace!

-Mark (praying the Lord will use me for His glory for many more years to come)

Happy Birthday, Mary!

My wife is getting older today…and wiser!

It’s her birthday and I’m so thankful for her. I tell her often that because of her sacrifice, I am able to do TIL. So when a marriage reconciles by God’s grace, my wife has a part in it due to her supportive role for me!

Happy Birthday to my sweetheart, Mary!

-Mark (not telling her age though she looks so young she could be carded at a rated “R” movie!)

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Every year, the month of May kills our family’s budget! May 1st is my youngest child’s birthday. May 9th is my precious mother-in-law’s birthday. May 10th is my mother’s birthday. May 23rd is my great wife’s birthday!

So Mother’s Day usually falls near both my mom’s and my wife’s mom’s birthdays! Talk about a triple whammy!

Happy Birthday to my mother today! I have a wonderful mother. Many of you know my father who runs our office, but you have not met or talked to my mother because she is quiet. She and I differ in that aspect (quiet vs. talkative) but that’s about it. My mother and I are exactly alike in many, many ways in how we think about life. So, if you ever get a chance to talk with her, you may catch how we are alike.

-Mark (thankful to Christ for my mother and all mothers and women – He has gifted so many women who serve the church so faithfully)

Happy Birthday, Mark Jr.!

My son is 13 today which is great except that he’s a teenager now! Our first teen but not our last. Pray for us!

In fact, we’ll have 4 teenagers at the SAME TIME for a few months when this son is 19 and our youngest turns 13 – all four children will be teens at that point, Lord willing.

God is so good. I’m proud of my children as I know you are if you are a parent, too.

Parenting is a humbling experience. I am reminded daily to trust in God.

-Mark (praying that the Lord will call this son into full-time ministry with TIL as our V.P. of Operations)

P.S. Happy Birthday to Tim Mullet, our fantastic intern, also today! Tim has one more full semester and part of another semester to go and he’ll finish at Southern Seminary with Dr. Stuart Scott.

the longest day

My son is awaiting his birthday tomorrow with great anticipation. My wife said to him, “Today probably feels like the longest day ever” to which my son quickly agreed.

As I overheard them, I thought about what I am awaiting with great anticipation: the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. It seems like a long time to me that He tarries; however, He will return soon as He promises in Rev. 22:20 says: “He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!”

Are you longing for His return, too?

-Mark (looking forward to the future return of my only hope: Christ Jesus)
