Slavery to Someone is not a choice, even for Christians!

Romans 6:17-18 reminds us of an important truth:

“But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.”

**

I know we love to sing songs about our freedom in Christ and I am thankful that I am no longer a slave to sin, but we are NOW slaves of righteousness. What does this mean? We are no longer free to live our lives for ourselves and our own glory, but only for the glory of Christ!

Think about it in this way: If God redeems us by purchasing us with His own Son’s blood, then to whom do we belong? He bought us. We belong to Him.

Frankly, I’m glad I belong to Him. I don’t want to belong to myself or to Satan or to the lies of this world.

So the Word of God tells us the truth that we are slaves to something or someone. We are going to be slaves. Period. We don’t have a choice in slavery or not. We are slaves. But here’s the choice: who is going to be your master? Satan or God.

The choice is not being a slave. The choice is which master will we serve in this life and in the next life that is eternal?

-Mark (thanking God that He is a good Master and knows much better than I)
