A real endangered species: the intact family

October 31, 2008 Leave a comment

While we hear about all of the endangered animals in the world, one endangered group is the intact American family with one father, one mother, and biological children.

This group of people really are an endangered species in our culture.

Divorce is ripping families apart. Adultery is ripping marriages apart. Disobedient children are ripping families apart. Poor parenting is ripping families apart.

If you want to INVEST in the future of this country, invest in our ministry at TIL. We are working hard to change lives, reconcile relationships, call people to Christ, and rebuilding families all in the power of Christ.

A Saturday Bible study?

October 31, 2008 Leave a comment

We had a great family day this past Saturday. I want to share it with you.

After b’fast, I read Psalm 51 to my wife and children. I taught them by using a handout given to me by a man who encourages fathers to teach their children the Word of God. Then, we listened to 2 songs about that psalm that accentuated different parts of the psalm. With an infinite God, there could be an infinite number of songs written about psalm 51. These 2 songs were powerful and brought out the psalm even more.

As we listened to the songs, we held up the verse number on our hand. Everyone had a Bible. When each person found the verse being sung, they held up the number that corresponded to it. For example, when he sang about verse four, we each held up 4 fingers. We kept changing as the song and verse changed. It was really fun and made us all stay on our toes.

I love teaching my children the Word of God because it will last forever. It’s not just something that is taught on Sundays. This past Saturday was a special day to all of us.

I encourage you to spend creative time in the study and meditation of God’s Word. There’s no better “high”!!!

God’s Timing (part 2)

God’s Timing (part 1)

October 28, 2008 Leave a comment

Have you ever been blown away at God’s timing?

The day after my wife taught our children about the biblical principle of restitution from Leviticus 6, we received a letter from a big company (that shall remain nameless) stating that they had omitted our order for 10 of an item and were giving us 20 of the item (10 additional for our inconvenience!). The company admitted their error and repented to us by repaying us what we were owed as well as full restitution!

God’s timing is perfect. Tell me about a similar example in your life!

-Mark (I wish I had the timing that God has – I do when I am Spirit-led)

Do you know any 4 year old atheists?

October 26, 2008 2 comments

I don’t know any 4 year olds who are atheists. When you ask a 4 year old, “is there a God?” they almost always say “yes.” Why? Because God’s image is stamped upon everyone! We are created in His image. Any 4 year old knows that!

Atheism is a “learned” state of mind. Young adults and adults “learn” to be atheists. They look at a fallen, sinful world resulting from Genesis 3 and they say, “there cannot be a God” but that is an INCORRECT assumption. A holy God allowed man to choose to sin in Gen. 3 resulting in death, dying, suffering, spiritual death, and pain. It is man’s fault that this world is full of misery!

When you teach a 4 year old the biblical truth of Genesis 3, then the world begins to make a little more sense to that child whose understanding will grow greater in time. Parents, are you teaching your children about this fallen world and the goodness of God? Pastors, are you teaching your congregation about this fallen world and the goodness of God?

Has He found me fully committed?

” The eyes of the Lord search the whole Earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. ”          2 Chronicles 16:9

The question I am asking myself… when I am really honest…. Is my heart fully committed to Him?

One truth is certain, I am closer to Him today than I was yesterday!

If you happen to be one of those faithful readers who visits our blog on a regular basis (if you aren’t you should be!!) you probably have at one day or another clicked the link in the right hand corner of the screen labeled  verse of the day
