10 minutes late, but right on time!

Recently, my wife and I were running late to a wedding. Of all things to be late for, a wedding ranks dead last in our book! We NEVER want to be late for a wedding.
We were so stressed out and aggravated but we KNEW that we had been busy doing the Lord’s business. I was counseling my heart out to people and was unable to leave the meeting that day. Someone who was supposed to counsel was unable to be there so I had to attend to cover it…it was for the counselees that I stayed as late as I did.
After stressing out over being late on the drive over there (traffic is one of my least favorite things in this fallen world), we got to the wedding 10 minutes late but guess what God did?
He redeemed it. He made a “bad thing” good. Here’s how He did it. The wedding started late ON PURPOSE by the planners & the groom (for a good and specific reason that they told us later!). We walked in and as soon as we touched the chairs to sit, the ceremony started at THAT exact moment. We looked at each other and just smiled at God’s amazing grace to us.
One other side note: I wore a tie that I had not worn in 2 years that has a saxophone on it. The first song of MUSIC at the wedding was a saxophone solo by a phenomenal sax player. My wife and I just looked at each other and smiled.

Mark very graciously ommitted the part about my grilling him on the way to the wedding about why he was so late.
I am always the one regularly and officially declaring the time to our family. It’s terrible how sinful I can get when we are “running late”.
I struggle with thinking that there is a direct correlation between being on time and godliness.
God is teaching me otherwise, having experienced this wedding with Mark… and I’m truly beginning to fully understand what it means in the Bible when God says regarding David that while everyone else looks at the outward appearance, God ponders and examines the heart.
God is so gracious!
